Direct inoculation of AJP40 or AJP50 from freezer stocks (approximately 0.2 g/L dcw; green diamonds) was carried out. A short adaptation protocol of inoculation (0.2 g/L dcw) into 7% w/v solids for 24 hours was used, and a 10% v/v aliquot (approximately 1 g/L dcw) from this fermentation was used to inoculate 17.5% w/v solids using either AJP40 (red circles) or AJP50 (blue triangles).
