Scanning electron microscope (SEM) image of Kraft lignin char after chemical activation by H 3 PO 4 . Figure 3 shows SEM images of the pyrolyzed Kraft lignin char with phosphoric acid pretreatment, respectively. The char pyrolyzed from the phosphoric pretreated lignin is completely different in morphology as compared with the raw Kraft lignin and the char without phosphoric acid pretreatment.
