Co-consumption of maltose and pentose sugars. A) The strain BWY1-XT was inoculated with 4 g _{(dry biomass)}/L in SC medium containing D-xylose (10 g/L) without or with 30 g/L maltose. B) The strain BWY1-AT was inoculated with 4 g _{(dry biomass)}/L in SC medium containing L-arabinose (12 g/L) without or with 25 g/L maltose. The cultivations were performed in shake flasks at 30°C. At different time points, probes were taken and the concentrations of residual sugars analyzed by HPLC.
