Relative maximum growth rate of the 27 best D-xylose fermenting segregants in comparison to the strain HDY.GUF5. Growth was performed in synthetic medium containing 20 g/L glucose in 200 μl volume using a bioscreen assay at an initial OD600 of 0.1. Error bars represent standard deviation from average values of triplicate experiments. The maximum growth rate obtained for each strain was calculated relative to HDY.GUF5.
