Chimeric cellulases (CD-CBM) show greater penetration and bulk degradation of amorphous cellulose films at T opt . Cellulose volume fraction profiles at Topt (65°C for Cel9A and its chimera, and 75°C for Cel5A and its chimera) are shown for each cellulase. Amorphous cellulose films were incubated with a) Cel9A or Cel9A-CBM, and b) Cel5A or Cel5A-CBM. The profile for the film prior to enzyme addition is also shown. Arrows indicate the cellulose-buffer interface.
