Lineage of strains selected for improved growth rate and ethanol production in this study. M0355 carries deletions of the ldh, pta, and ack but was not selected for improved growth rate. The lineages resulting in M0694, M0699, and M0700 were cultivated in continuous culture to select for improved growth properties. The lineages resulting in M0731, M0734, and M0863 were exposed to chemical mutagenesis and serial transfer for improved growth properties; the lineage resulting in M0863 was subsequently cultured in continuous culture. All strains were isolated as single colonies prior to genomic DNA isolation and re-sequencing.
