  1. Lignin amount was expressed as percentage of CWR, while the amount of each subunit was expressed in μmol g−1 CWR and in μmol g−1 AcBr lignin. The relative proportions of the different lignin units were calculated based on the total thioacidolysis yield. Cellulose content was expressed as percentage of CWR. Numbers between brackets indicate the standard deviation. One-way ANOVA and the Tukey HSD post hoc tests were performed to reveal significant (P < 0.05) differences between the various lines, which are indicated by different letters
