The chemical forms of oxidation that were characterized in this study are displayed (i.e. diol and aldonic acid for the +16 Da species, ketone for the −2 Da species). No lactone is represented, as we exclusively observed ketones for the −2 Da species. In the case of MLG and lichenan, oxidation at the non-reducing end may be localized at C3 or C4, but this was not determined.
