Metabolic profiling of the YPH499 and YSM046 (evolved PDCΔ) strains. Cells were cultured in a shake flask containing 100 mL of SD medium (20 g L−1 glucose) under aerobic conditions (the same cultures that provided the data shown in Fig. 6). Intracellular metabolites were extracted from cells collected at mid-log phase (OD660 = 1.0) and their concentrations were determined by ion-pairing LC–MS/MS analysis. G6P, glucose 6-phosphate; F6P, fructose 6-phosphate; FBP, fructose 1,6-bisphosphate; DHAP, dihydroxyacetone phosphate; 3PG, 3-phosphoglycerate; 2PG, 2-phosphoglycerate; PEP, phosphoenolpyruvate; PYR, pyruvate; AcCoA, acetyl-CoA; 6PG, 6-phosphogluconate; S7P, sedoheptulose 7-phosphate; Xu5P, xylulose 5-phosphate. Data are presented as the mean ± standard deviation of three separate cultivations (n = 3 each)
