Putative lignin biosynthesis pathway in Brachypodium distachyon. Inputs from phenylalanine and tyrosine appear to merge early in the pathway, at the pool of p-coumaric acid. This early convergence renders the observation curious that feeding labeled phenylalanine or tyrosine results in distinctly different incorporations of label into different lignin monomers.
