Comparison of transcription levels of the genes involved in xylose metabolic pathways and central carbon metabolism of XUSE and XUS strains. The cells were cultured in minimal medium containing 20 g/L xylose under microaerobic conditions and then collected after 20 h of cultivation. The values in the boxes indicate the fold changes of transcription levels in XUSE compared with those in XUS (p < 0.05). The gene names follow those in the Saccharomyces Genome Database (SGD; http://www.yeastgenome.org)
