The cell motility in Clostridium saccharoperbutylacetonicum N1-4 (HMT) and various mutants, represented by the diameter of cell migration on soft agar plates. The WT N1-4 (HMT) strain demonstrated two different motility sizes: N1-4 (HMT) and N1-4 (HMT)#. The cell culture was grown in TGY medium until the OD600 reached ~ 0.8. Two microliters of the cell culture was spotted onto the center of the TGY plate containing 0.5% agar. The diameter of the cell migration was measured after 12 h of cultivation at 35 °C anaerobically. The reported value (the value in the parentheses underneath of each plate image, in centimeter) is mean ± SD. The asterisk indicates that the corresponding cell motility of that particular strain was significantly different from the WT strain (P < 0.05)
