Experimental design. The initial Chlamydomonas culture grown under control conditions was diluted and split between nine flasks just before experiment start. Flasks were placed under continuous UV-C light irradiation during the first 15 min upon experiment start. Three different flasks were sampled for each harvesting time. Harvesting was performed at the experiment start (t 0 h), 5 and 24 h after UV-C irradiation start
