Heat map of the OrganoCat pretreatment and fractionation results for the ten different types of lignocellulosic plant materials under the different process conditions. Color density represents normalized values for the amount of sugars and lignin yield and pulp digestibility. Sugar yield is defined as the amount of reducing sugars determined in the aqueous phase after pretreatment. Lignin yield is defined as the amount of lignin extracted with 2-MTHF after pretreatment. Pulp digestibility is defined as glucose release from cellulase digestion of the pulp after pretreatment (for full data set, see Additional file 1: Table S1)
