Cellulase enzymes with different degradation mechanisms alter the characteristics of the nanocellulose products. a–c T. reesei Cel7A performs processive hydrolysis which results in high aspect ratio digestion products resembling CNFs. df CelA from C. bescii tends towards localized hydrolysis which facilitates intra-fibril fragmentation and results in production of more uniform fragments with aspect ratios typical of CNCs.
