A Ethanol concentration was more affected by buffer pH (3.0 > 4.5) than concentration for both S. cerevisiae and Z. mobilis in 6% glucan loading hydrolysate. B Ethanol yield was not affected significantly by hydrolysate buffer pH. For both S. cerevisiae and Z. mobilis, the yields were higher at a lower buffer concentration for both cases. All hydrolysates were made from AFEX pretreated CS at 6% glucan loading. All fermentations were conducted at a pH of 5.8 ± 0.1. Values for all subfigures are reported as mean ± SD, n = 2
