Fed batch fermentation results. A 1,8-cineole production; (B) Growth comparison; (C) Lactate comparison; (D) Pyruvate comparison. Fermentations were run in the 2-L bioreactor using the fermentation medium supplemented with 1.5% glucose, feeding started after the glucose was consumed (22–24 h). Ferm 1: strain DM08 (MG1655 background with acetate genes knockout), exponential feeding; Ferm 2: strain DM08, exponential feeding, additional antibiotics (30 mg chloramphenicol and 100 mg carbenicillin) were added at 31 h, Ferm 3: strain DM10 (MG1655 background with acetate and lactate genes knockout), exponential feeding, additional antibiotics (30 mg chloramphenicol and 100 mg carbenicillin) were added at 31 h; Ferm 4: strain DM10, pulse feeding, additional antibiotics (30 mg chloramphenicol and 100 mg carbenicillin) were added at 31 h. The experiments were run in duplicate and the difference was negligible, so the error bars were not presented
