Yeast strains in (A) YP medium plates with different carbon sources, (B) YP liquid medium containing 2% CMC or 2% PASC or (C) 2% cellobiose or 2% beta-glycan as the sole carbon source by strains NC (vector for control), NpaBGS (KY3-NpaBGS), and KR5. The total sugar concentration was measured as glucose equivalent by the phenol-sulfuric acid method.
