From: Addition of a carbohydrate-binding module enhances cellulase penetration into cellulose substrates
Cellulose volume profiles are shown for chimeric cellulases with inactive catalytic domains (CD KO -CBM). Amorphous cellulose films were incubated at room temperature with a) Cel9AKO-CBM, and b) Cel5AKO-CBM. Plots show the normalized cellulose volume fraction versus normalized distance from the silicon oxide surface. The profile for the film prior to enzyme addition is also shown. Arrows indicate the cellulose-buffer interface. Brown dotted line shows the extrapolation of the cellulose profile for Cel9AKO-CBM after the enzyme layer at the surface of the film was removed.
