Degradation of filter paper by recombinant strains of R. cellulolyticum carrying p0, pCel9Ac and pCel9A. Hungate tubes containing mineral media supplemented with a stripe of filter paper at 7 g/L were inoculated (at a dilution of 1/33) with cellobiose-grown cultures of the various recombinant strains. The experiments were performed four times and snapshots were taken at least once a day. The most representative series of snapshots is shown for each strain. The duration of incubation expressed in days is indicated on top of the snapshots.
