Butanol formation from acetyl-CoA. Acetyl-CoA is synthesized via the Wood–Ljungdahl pathway (WL pathway) and 2 acetyl-CoA can be reduced to butanol either by means of butyraldehyde dehydrogenase or by means of aldehyde:ferredoxin oxidoreductase (AOR). The butyryl-CoA dehydrogenase (Bcd) uses NADH as electron donor, if the Bcd is electron-bifurcating it reduces ferredoxin simultaneously with crotonyl-CoA
