Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) images of cells and plastids of control and endoglucanase-expressing transplastomic plants. PRV control plants (a) show mature chloroplasts, whereas for endoglucanase-expressing transplastomic plants the coexistence of mature chloroplast and plastid resembling proplastid in DC1 plants (b) and the prevalent presence of proplastids containing vesicles in DC2 (c) and DC3 (d) plants were observed. Arrows in a and b indicate grana and inter-grana structures. Arrowheads in c and d point to rudimentary thylakoids.
