  1. Condition: 5-L bioreactor, 28 °C, pH 5.5, aeration rate of 1.33 vvm (defined as the air volumetric flowrate in liter per minute to the corn stover feedstock volume in liter). Total sugar loss (%) was calculated for the sum of consumed glucose and xylose divided by the total glucose and xylose contained in the solid pretreated corn stover. Six model inhibitors without formic acid were analyzed due to the very less formic acid on the real solid feedstocks after acid pretreatment. All experiments were carried out in duplicate. Error was calculated as standard deviation
