Comparison of initial hydrolysis rate of various woody plants. The HPAC-pretreated substrates (1%, w/v) were hydrolyzed using 7.5 FPU cellulase g biomass −1 at 50 °C for 3 h. The initial rate of P. densiflora showed statistically significant difference to the rate of M. japonicus, Q. acutissima, and P. deltoides (P = 0.029); C. japonica presented a statistically significant difference to the rate of Q. acutissima (P =  < 0.001)
