  1. Initial furfural and HMF concentrations present in the medium were 1.21 g/L and 0.44 g/L, respectively. Each parent strain listed above was engineered in the same manner to replace PHO13 with the genes required for xylose fermentation (i.e., pho13∆::PPGK1-XYL1-TPGK1; PADH1-XYL2-TADH1; PHXT7-XKS1-THXT7).
