Inhibitor tolerance assay in acid-pretreated spruce hydrolysate with the three new hybrid strains in a small-scale fermentation experiment. The fermentation was performed using the whole slurry of spruce hydrolysate (60%) supplemented with 40 g/L glucose with continuous stirring at 200 rpm. Cells were inoculated at an initial cell density of 1.3 g DW/L from a stationary phase preculture in YPD medium. The CO2 production was estimated from the weight loss during fermentation.
